WAIMEA COMMUNITY THEATRE PRESENTS

"A Christmas Carol"

"A Dickens of a Holiday"

or

"How We Got Scrooged"

BY
Adria Gibbs and Scott Martin

    Directed by Adrea Gibbs

One of the unique things about this production, says Director, Adrea Gibbs, is that while the story holds true to the Dickens’ classic, there are twists with the characters, many recognizable from popular television shows dating from the 50’s to today's popular hits. Each performer in the play will portray multiple characters alluding to  pop culture favorites: Lucy and Ricky Ricardo, the Brady Bunch, Ryan Seacrest and the American Idol judges, Laverne & Shirley, and Elvis Presley (who will appear as the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future), to name just a few.  With the exception of Scrooge himself, all the roles will be non-traditionally cast, so that young, old, short, tall, men, women, and anyone in between will be welcome to audition for any role in the show.

“A Dickens of a Holiday,” was first performed at the Moorpark Melodrama in Moorpark, California.  It was written by Scott Martin and Adrea Gibbs with an aim of creating a fun and different production based on the ever-popular story.  Ms. Gibbs will direct this production which will be presented in a reader’s theatre/radio program style.  Performers will read from  the script, but the show will incorporate other features, such as musical numbers.

"Dickens of a Holiday" has been popularly received through several incarnations. According to Ms Gibbs, its enduring popularity results from the authors' willingness to update the script periodically using  current aspects of pop culture.

Performances are scheduled for December 18, 19, and 20, at Parker School Theatre in Waimea. The director extends a warm welcome to anyone who has ever wanted to show the world his or her Elvis impersonation AND be in “A Christmas Carol,” to audition for an opportunity to reach  both those goals at the same time!

Anyone interested in helping with costumes, props, lights, sound, or helping out backstage during performances  should contact the director as soon as possible.
