Waimea Community Chorus brings its 18th Annual Holiday Concert to the stage at Kahilu Theatre on December 10 and 11 to round out three weeks of seasonal entertainment, which included “Oliver!” and “A Dickens of a Holiday”  The latter were produced by the Chorus’ parent organization, Waimea Community Theatre.

The chorus itself, founded in 1994, now numbers over 70 voices under the direction of the energetic Barbara Kopra, who has directed the group since 2005.  Presenting a varied program of both traditional and modern Christmas favorites, the concert is likely to take its place in a series of popular presentations that have made Waimea Community Chorus Concerts a holiday must-see for many years.   Performing on Saturday evening at Kahilu with a curtain time of 7:30 pm and on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 pm, the show hopes to leave its audiences in joyful anticipation of the coming holidays.   Tickets are priced at $15 for adults, $13 for seniors and students, and $10 for children 10 and under.   They are available with a $2 “Advance Sale” discount from WCT’s regular ticket outlets, the Waimea General Store and Without Boundaries in Waimea Town, and from Suite Possibilities in Kailua-Kona.

The 2011 Concert, which is entitled “With Music Ring!”, will center loosely around the “Musicological Journey Through the 12 Days of Christmas.” This somewhat tongue-in-check version of the popular carol presents each “day” in a different musical style leading from Gregorian Chant up to a rousing Sousa March.  Beyond this framework, the body of the concert includes varied styles and moods of seasonal music including beautiful carols and light hearted songs, as well as Kopra’s signature annual presentation of a new version of the classic “Jingle Bells”.  The collection pays homage to the vast variety and enduring popularity of carols from all cultures and ages.

The concert will feature substantial orchestral accompaniment including the ever-popular Everett Knowles on Piano, with Jessica Salerno, Elizabeth Sekona, Ramona Cannon, Julie Sallis, Joe Barry on strings,  David Tarnas, Merry Kay Kiyan, Erika Curiskis on winds, Andrea Lindborg. Joshua Timmons, Terry Warner, Jesse Snyder on horns, Jacy Andersen on Guitar and Doug Johnson on percussion.

Chorus members include: Tilton Akeo, Carole Arnott, Becca Barrett, Ann Bennett, Patty Bigelow, Maureen Bradley, Miguel Bray, Thomas Bruck, LouAnn Bruck, Dallas Burr, Georgiana Caravalho, Linda Cassidy, David Caudle, Kathleen Cazimero, Yama Chillingworth, Bobby Clement, Ralph Cobb, Sue Cobb, Beverly Cypriano, Paul Dahlquist, Duncan Dempster, Alex Disney, Sabrina Disney, Nancy Edmondson, Dee Edmunds, Karen Evans, Rona Flaherty, Lynn Fragas, David Gomes, Vivian Green, Patricia Gunter, Diane Hammond, Ilene Harrington, Marcia Hartsock, Heather Heacook, Ramon Honea, Susan James, Betty Jenkins, Michelle Kahle, Eliana Kaplan, Steven Kaplan, Jody Kobayashi, Barbara Kopra, Marci Manker, Julie Mattson, Barbara May, Beth McKeen, Catherine Mitchell, Juanita Montgomery, Stanley Nakamura, Alivia Nelson, Nancy Perry, Jo Piltz, Lala Power, Melora  Purell, Elizabeth Rollins, Ipo Ross, Justin Sandulli, A.
